I have an exhibit of new work on view in Seattle until June 26 at SEASON . This piece, Ramona, is from 2014 and I made it after moving to Southern California. My mom helped me make the fabric dyes from plants (mulberries and cactus). It is a challenge to make art while caring for a baby. This is certainly not new information but I'm ever so thankful for the short bursts of time I can find to create work and the audience who spends time with what I've made. I'm interested to see how my process will change under these time constraints and what will be next on the horizon.
I started playing around with an open source version of Photoshop and am experimenting with digitizing some of my embroidery work. While I love working with my hands, it has taken a toll on my wrists and arms lately so I'm looking for new ways to approach my practice. I have also starting making my own fabric designs. More to come on that one soon, stay tuned!
I am off to Arizona next week for a visit to family, a wedding, and a baby shower. There is lots going on in 2014! Side note, I'm hoping for a gila monster sighting, preferably from a distance.
