pie stand

Image
When I was a kid I used to make mini pies with the apples and peaches from our backyard and sell them out of a stand on my street.  I also sold eggs from our chickens and homemade tea. The apples from our yard were always tiny and super tart.  Ever since those days I have loved a really sour apple pie with very little added sugar. My days of selling pies and homemade tea tinctures may have passed but I still love to make pies. I have Kate Lebo and Pie School to thank for the most delicious recipes and pie anecdotes.  This photo was taken by my mom at Thanksgiving as I was prepping our apple pie.

one year later

I just hit my one year anniversary of living in California.  As a kid growing up in Phoenix, I always wanted to live in San Diego.  It seemed like a dream to be so close to the ocean. It's been quite a year and I'm very much looking forward to what this next year will bring our way.

Back from Arizona

Image
I just made it back from a two week vacation to Arizona. As Ian calls it, it was a real "circle of life" trip.  I got a chance to see old friends and deal with some more difficult situations as well. Arizona shined very bright on this trip.  I traveled to Tucson, Aravaipa Canyon, Sedona, Arcosanti (last picture from the series above), and ended up in Phoenix for the wedding and baby shower of two of my best friends.

gila monsters and a trip to AZ

Image
I am off to Arizona next week for a visit to family, a wedding, and a baby shower.  There is lots going on in 2014!  Side note, I'm hoping for a gila monster sighting, preferably from a distance.

28 days of yoga

Image
During February I am participating in a 28 day yoga challenge through 8 limbs in Seattle.  I am not a naturally flexible person and tend to carry a lot of stress and anxiety with me so this challenge has been both extremely difficult but also really wonderful at the same time.  I was recently reminded of being a kid in Phoenix and taking my first yoga class as a teenager at the neighborhood yoga studio by the Red Lobster.  This was back in the mid-90s and yoga definitely had a different vibe.  My class looked a lot like the above picture. So, yes, yoga is awesome and I'm looking forward to the remaining 14 days!  If any readers out there have any recommendations on nutrition, yoga, or just general mind and body connectivity please share.
