Sometimes I forget I'm near an ocean.  This is taken at Sunset Cliffs, one of my favorite spots in SD.

These are the days...

Natalie Merchant's Unplugged look is the best.  I hope to channel all that energy this week with my fashion choices.

Monarch

Image
I found this monarch the other day on one of our walks.  She seemed to be near the end of her days. She had a very slow flutter and seemed a bit confused.  She was beautiful nonetheless and let me pick her up with a piece of bark and move her to a better area away from the traffic.

Now It's Time to Lose it Now

Image
I have an exhibit of new work on view in Seattle until June 26 at SEASON .  This piece, Ramona, is from 2014 and I made it after moving to Southern California.  My mom helped me make the fabric dyes from plants (mulberries and cactus). It is a challenge to make art while caring for a baby.  This is certainly not new information but I'm ever so thankful for the short bursts of time I can find to create work and the audience who spends time with what I've made.  I'm interested to see how my process will change under these time constraints and what will be next on the horizon.

In the Palms

Image
I just passed my two-year California anniversary.  I'm not quite sure where the time has gone but at the same time it feels like I've been here much longer.  I miss the PNW all the time but all these palm trees are pretty darn sweet.

This is an embroidered, sculptural piece from 2015.  I'm working to incorporate more pencil marks and also more dimension in my newer pieces.

San Diego murals

Image
Yeah, technically not a mural but I do love the murals of San Diego.   Chicano Park has some of the best I've ever seen.

2016

Image
2015 was a year of great changes and shifts.  I look forward to greeting new challenges and adventures in 2016 as well as rekindling my artistic practice.  This is a shot of a small embroidered wallet I made at the end of last year.  I was really happy with the finished product, especially the pencil-drawn pattern and the braided string closure.

pie stand

Image
When I was a kid I used to make mini pies with the apples and peaches from our backyard and sell them out of a stand on my street.  I also sold eggs from our chickens and homemade tea. The apples from our yard were always tiny and super tart.  Ever since those days I have loved a really sour apple pie with very little added sugar. My days of selling pies and homemade tea tinctures may have passed but I still love to make pies. I have Kate Lebo and Pie School to thank for the most delicious recipes and pie anecdotes.  This photo was taken by my mom at Thanksgiving as I was prepping our apple pie.

This is snapshot from a recent trip to AZ.  I'll be taking a road trip to Marfa, TX next month and can't wait to see this new landscape.
